Hello? Hello? Yes, we’re still here, after a looooooong and (if we do say so ourselves) well-deserved break Looking forward to catching up with you all in the coming days and weeks!
Stop by and see us if you get chance at the Forum des Langues du Monde. We’ll be there alongside The British Council and Muriel from Arts Edfest all day on Sunday 22nd September.
For more info, take a look at the programme.
Nooooooo, not DATING (surely that was earlier in the month?), debating – or rather talking about some very silly (or very serious) subjects over a glass of something cold. Or hot.
Following on from our Passeurs d’Europe event last month, on Thursday we’re going to base our speed debates around the Benjamin Zephaniah poem, We Refugees. Benjamin who? Yes, you know the guy who famously turned down an OBE a few years back…
Come find out why the British government is advertising that people SHOULD NOT come to the UK (after spending all those millions on the Olympics to encourage people to do exactly the opposite)!
We’re gonna talk about culture, immigration, identity, living in different places around the world… and we’d like to hear your stories. Feel like taking a serious, or a more light-hearted view of things? Whatever. We’ll just be pleased to see you
What? A whole week full of activities, events and projections of British films? How utterly fantastic! The Culture Tree would like to get together with Ciné O Clock to suggest the following two outings:
- Sat 2nd February (Opening ceremony/evening) Shadow Dancer at 9pm
- Sun 10th February (Closing event) Week-End Royal at 5pm
Films are in the original version, with French subtitles and will be followed by a cocktail on Saturday, 2nd February and a traditional British tea-time on Sunday 10th February. Come on, we’re not stupid, why do you think we chose those showings in particular! Then, if people are interested, we could go for a drink afterwards and discuss the film.
Discount prices exist for groups of either 6 or 10 people. Please RSVP to email@example.com to let us know if you’re coming so that we can organize everything and make sure that there are enough seats available.
Are you looking for something new to read? Do you want to hear about new authors and discuss books in an informal, relaxed context? Do you have English books at home you’d like to exchange? If the answer to any of these questions is ‘yes’, then The Culture Tree’s English book swap is perfect for you!
As part of our January session, we will also be discussing the poem “We Refugees” by Benjamin Zephaniah, and the themes it touches on.
Join us at L’Antre-Autre from 7.30pm on Thurs 31st January 2013.
Let’s play! Choose from our wide selection of board games: strategy games, discussion games, word-play games, miming games, short games, longer games, games for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and more people. Bring your friends!

Eat, drink, talk, play games and be merry! Prepare for the holiday season in style with something a little bit different. Thibault will set up a festive table for us in our usual room: bring out the ‘foodie’ in you and indulge in a delicious, homemade meal. Then take part in our festive activities and entertainment: discussion topics, festive facts, games… All that, plus a Secret Santa too!
This will be an action-packed evening in two parts, starting with drinks and nibbles at L’Antre-Autre from 7.30-9pm, then moving outside for an hour-long walking tour of the Fête des Lumières.
Ever wanted to know more about Lyon, its history, people, traditions? Or perhaps you feel you’re already pretty well informed on the subject? Come test your knowledge in our interactive quiz and learn some new and surprising facts into the bargain! Then, after warming up (both physically and intellectually!), take to the streets with us for a guided tour of the lights in and around the 1st district of Lyon and the Croix-Rousse.
Join us at L’Antre-Autre from 7.30pm on Thurs 6th December 2012.
An evening all about film and cinema, action-packed with lots of different activities: games, speed-debates and discussions around the 7th art. During this event we also hope to be able to project short extracts from films, documentaries or film shorts on the large screen upstairs at L’Antre-Autre…
Join us at L’Antre-Autre from 7.30pm on Thurs 22nd November 2012.
It’s a Go special! Come and discover the ancient game of Go as well as our regular games night activities… in English of course! Go experts, Loïc and Florent, from the Go club, will be there to guide us at the start of the evening.
Join us Chez Thibault from 7.30pm on Thurs 8th November 2012.
Let’s talk about books… Let’s listen to other people talking about books… Let’s read extracts from books, novels, poetry…
A big welcome to all those who are planning to come to our Book Swap event for the first time, on Thursday 25th October. We’re sure you’ll find something you like!
For those of you who came to our last Book Swap, just before the summer, the big question is: have you finished your books yet? How were they: interesting? gripping? moving? touching? Or far-fetched and unrealistic? After the long summer break, you’re probably now ready for some more!
The good news is that we’ve got plenty of new additions to widen our selection, thanks to donations from members and new acquisitions over the summer.
At Thursday’s event, we will also have a guest reader, Muriel Rubin, who will be talking about some of her favourite authors and reading one or two of her favourite poems.
We’re looking forward to seeing you then!
